My Beginning

A photograph of Korbyn standing in front of neon lights. The lights are bouncing off her hair and giving her an illuminating halo.

Since I was little, I always wanted to be a photographer. I grew up in the disposable camera era, so I was constantly taking candids at football game watch-parties, the yearly fair and carnival, and just around the house when I wanted to pester my mom. She printed every photo for me, and when I was 14 years old, she bought me my first Nikon camera. I took thousands of photos with it, but the photos never looked as good as the idea I had in my head. This led to me to give up on photography for a little while.

As I grew older, I started learning about exposure, filters, and editing. This came mostly from Instagram to be honest, which makes me laugh now. Once I realized that lighting was making and breaking my photos, I started figuring things out bit by bit. I never cared about being the best photographer in Oklahoma, my passion has always been capturing memories and images that evoke strong feelings in the viewer.

Connection is what drives my photography, and now that I seek that out in every client I work with and every photo I shoot, I’m finally able to convey that in my photography. The fact that I’m packing a Canon 5D Mark IV doesn’t hurt either.

As this is my first blog post, I don’t want to overwhelm you, or myself for that matter! So I’m keeping it simple and ending here. I’ve shown you just a glimpse into my beginnings as a photographer, but I plan on telling— and showing— you my journey up to this point, and my path onward into the future.

Stay tuned.
